WHEREAS the American public has recently been made aware of systematic abuses of power undertaken by the NSA in the name of fighting terrorism,
WHEREAS the PATRIOT Act has been used to justify these abuses,
WHEREAS surveillance conducted by the NSA has been shown to be little more than espionage and not in the service of fighting terrorism,
WHERAS these abuses of power, including the PATRIOT Act itself run contrary to the fourth Amendment of the Constitution,
WHEREAS government officials have lied under oath regarding these abuses of power,
AND WHEREAS gov't transparency and personal privacy for American citizens have become virtually nonexistent in the wake of the PATRIOT Act,
We, the people of the USA, hereby petition the government to abolish the NSA and repeal the PATRIOT Act.
