The minimum wage, while good intentioned, is hurting the economy and employment. A higher minimum wage decreases the amount of jobs available to unskilled laborers. The majority of minimum wage earners are under the age of 25, but If the minimum wage is increased, companies with entry level positions will stop hiring and may even let go some of their workers to cut costs. This becomes a big issue because if there are less people developing skills in these entry level positions there will be fewer people to lead the the next generation forward. Even the Congressional Budget Office estimates that increasing the minimum wage to just $10.10 would cost at least 500,000 jobs. I hope you will take some time to research the topic more in depth and then take this petition into consideration.
