Current drunk driving laws are ineffective.
Reckless driving is the problem, not alcohol. In 2000 when we lowered the legal limit from .1 to .08, for the first time in 20 years there was an increase in drunk driving fatalities.
When you waste cops doing things like DUI checkpoints, that is 8-12 less police officers that could be out on the streets, watching for an idiot driving down the road swerving, running red lights, and potentially killing someone you love.
Or on a different note, Imagine you're pulled over for say, forgetting a blinker, or driving 5 over. Something we do sober almost every day. You get pulled over, your breath smells like alcohol, now the officer has probable cause and you are going to jail with a DUI, potentially ruining your life.
