The US military relies on an archaic method to determine whether its members' fitness. The BMI is an outdated system whose origins lie in 15th century Belgian ideals. Not only has the human body changed significantly since the 15th century, but so have athletic pursuits. No longer is a lithe figure the determining factor of fitness - many military members who pass height and weight standards are unable to pass prescribed PT tests, and the converse is just as true.
No other military is as obsessed as the United States with appearance. Shouldn't a fighting force be focused on whether its members can perform their jobs, rather than how they look in uniform?
We The People make this request: so long as a member of the military can pass a PT test, they should be deemed fit to serve.
