There has never been a coin in circulation in the U.S. worth as little as the penny is worth today. Additionally, as of March 2008, it costs about 1.7 cents to mint a penny. Us taxpayers lose money on every penny printed.
It is now time to join the many countries outside the United States that have chosen to remove low-value coins from circulation.
