Abolish the Penny

Created by L.T. on May 07, 2013

Pennies no longer do the job that money is required to do - facilitate the exchange of goods and services. They are hard to manage and waste, on average, 2 seconds per every cash transaction. During 2012, the production of one penny cost 2.41¢, more than twice it's worth. There are billions of pennies minted every year, costing the country money for no practical reason.

We urge the United States government to abolish the penny, rounding prices to the nearest 5¢. If you have your doubts on whether this will work, keep in mind:
Many countries have successfully retired their lowest denomination of coin. Overseas U.S. Military Bases got rid of pennies about 30 years ago, and they've had no trouble.

Please, follow their lead and abolish the penny.
