The penny has become a useless piece of coinage. Nowadays it is merely copper *coated* and, due to inflation over the years, it's worth less than the half penny coin was when it was removed from our monetary system. These little bits of metals we could otherwise be putting to other good uses are becoming stagnant; we stash them in jars where they do nothing. In order for money and economy to work well, they must flow. Other countries have successfully gotten rid of their penny unit or, like Canada, are in the process of doing so. They simplify their prices by integrating taxes right into the price of items before you even make a purchase, and even after that they round to the nearest five cents. Our own soldiers over seas are doing this already, too. Why not simplify? Eliminate the penny.
