Abolish the Penny

Created by L.T. on February 15, 2013

It is common sense (cents) that pennies are a large part of American culture. However, one penny costs 2.4 cents to make, so the Government is losing money. There is little to gain from the penny because it has practically no purchasing power. Canada has already abolished its penny and suffered no economic change (get it?). A study by Robert Wheples from Wake Forest University said there would be practically no economic change. Prices would be rounded up to the nearest five cents, having little effect to even the poorest of the poor. It is time to progress in efficiency and this is the way to do it.
