The US government is still minting 4 million US pennies per year; costing 1.8 cents to make 1 penny. Nothing costs 1 penny anymore. We spend too much time trying to come up with exact change for a purchase when it would be easier to round every transaction off to the nearest 5 cents. Not even vending machines take pennies. Toll booths won't take them. Laundry mats won't take them. Parking meters won't take them. They are not worth the time or effort. If I saw a penny on the ground I'm liable to kick it, or step on it rather than pick it up. Overseas US military bases have already eliminated the penny and round to the nearest 5 cents. It's time to make the penny go. It is a dead weight on our economy.
