Abolish the penny in order to save millions of dollars annually.

Created by R.K. on January 28, 2013

In 2011, the net cost of minting pennies was over $60 million. In the interest of both the consumer and the government, a number of countries have done away with the penny, most notably Canada, Mexico, and Britain. As these examples stopped minting their respective pennies, they experienced no negative effects. No inflation, no reduction in trade. Pennies have effectively zero purchasing power and do nothing to help our economy. There is no reason to continue minting the penny, and much to gain to discontinuing it. The choice here is a simple, logical one.
