The current political party system fosters defined roles of what people should believe (also known as the left and the right). This prevents elected officials from representing, and often even listening, to the thoughts, values, and desires of their constituents, assuming that because they were elected under a party platform that they truly represent these people. Modern technology has allowed for the rapid and credible transmission of the thoughts of the people being represented. Elected officials should vote and promote these opinions and values, not promote the thoughts and values of a party which does not originate or share the values of the constituents.
Legislation or constitutional action needs to be taken to give the people the right to have their voices truly heard.
