The practice of changing our clocks biennially is, at best, outdated. Originally proposed by Ben Franklin as a joke to economize on candles, in practice the energy savings attributed to Daylight Saving Time (DST) is minimal or non-existent. In fact, some say energy consumption *increases* following DST.
Studies have shown an increase in heart attacks in the first weeks after time changes, and auto accidents spike on the first Monday after DST. An Australian study shows an increase in male suicides during the first week of DST.
Furthermore, changing clock impacts our body's circadian clock, resulting in "social jet-lag," leading to reduced productivity, decreased quality of life, and increased susceptibility to illness.
