The Second Amendment has become a shield by which the powerful pro-gun lobby can block any real gun control, at the expense of innocents. How many more children need to die before we say, "Enough is enough?"
Too often, the response to calls for gun control is that the right to bear arms is enshrined in the Constitution. But just because it's a constitutional amendment does not make it a good law. We have amendments because sometimes laws need to change.
Abolishing this amendment does not mean that all guns would be outlawed everywhere. But it would clear the way for real, meaningful control of deadly weapons. Push Congress, and the country, to reclaim the debate over guns from powerful, self-interested lobbyists and show our children we are committed to making America safe for them.
