Abolish The Grand Jury Process: Who is Chosen for the Grand Jury and Why do They Meet In Secret?
Open up the precess by having an open jury. The public should know who decides to indict. I want the accused given an opportunity to ask questions of the jury, prosecutors, witnesses, person or persons who assisted or prepared witness statements, and of arresting police officers. The public and the accused should have access to names, race and professions including any political affiliations of the grand jury.
Police officers have a team of lawyers coaching them what to say and are represented by union attorneys who are often former prosecutors; accusers should have the same opportunity to a defense team as well as witnesses called on their behalf during grand jury proceedings.
