Since 9/11, over $2.5 billion of cash has been seized from citizens who have NOT been charged with a crime AND when there is NOT a search warrant. These seizures do NOT come with an 'innocent until proven' guilty burden of proof. This is called "civil forfeiture".
We the People request President Obama do the following:
1 - Acknowledge civil forfeiture in the described circumstances is, in his own legal analysis, clearly unconstitutional and is plainly tantamount to unreasonable search and seizure.
2 - Pledge to work hard to (a) abolish the process of seizing assets through civil forfeiture from citizens who have not been charged with a crime, (b) return all assets taken from those not charged, and (c) provide a detailed plan of what his administration will do to realize those goals.
