Abolish the sex offender registry

Created by Y.G. on November 13, 2012

The sex offender registry while good on paper, has had negative effects on the civil rights of convicted people. What started as an idea to protect children, has changed into a 21century witch hunt. Convicted RSO that are not on probation are restricted from living in certain areas, restricted from certain jobs, restricted from interacting with the community without condemnation. The supreme court of the US has at one point stated the People on this list are not criminally punished, therefore it is a civil punishment. However, that ruling is/was based on reports from the 1990's. The information in many of those reports have been found to be incorrect or misrepresented. It is imperative to let people who have served their time reenter society peacefully, and allow them to contribute.
