abolish the statute in the Tennessee State Constitution that denies atheists from holding public office

Created by J.P. on December 09, 2012

Tennessee State Constitution Article 9, Section 2 states "No person who denies the being of God, or a future state of rewards and punishments, shall hold any office in the civil department of this state." this is a direct violation of the First Amendment and needs to be repealed. while the chances of having an atheist in office are slim given the largely conservative christian population, every person deserves the same rights regardless of belief or culture and the chance to be politically active
