Abolish tenure for public school teachers grades K-12.

Created by D.T. on January 22, 2013

Tenure was initially designed to protect professors from being terminated for their ideas.

Now tenure is abused by bad teachers to maintain their teaching positions. Teacher performance, not seniority, should justify a teacher's position.

Children lose the most when they are taught by low quality teachers. Each year of poor teaching compounds the amount of time students need to catch up to appropriate grade level.

Eliminating tenure is the first step towards allowing other more practical standards to justify and evaluate teacher performance.

Abolishing tenure will allow flexibility to remove bad teachers, save on public spending, and allow new aspiring teachers to have more opportunities available to them.
