Had the govt. not enacted laws in the 1800's preventing private companies from directly competing at delivering mail, the USPS would no longer exist due to it's inefficiency and ineptness. It is an out of date, bloated government organization, filled with lazy people who treat the job like welfare - they can sit around and collect a check and government benefits for doing nothing. Abolish the USPS, or at a minimum, repeal those laws preventing direct competition so that companies like FedEx and UPS could have a chance to compete. As all capitalists know, "Competition breeds efficiency." As it stands private companies cannot deliver letter mail, only parcels - and then only with higher rates than USPS as the laws demands.This is in direct contradiction to a free country and a free market.
