Recent data breaches in organizations that handle personal information such as Target and Anthem indicates that private sector is unable to maintain confidentiality of personal data. As technology develops swiftly, such events indicate that it is inevitable that hackers with malicious intent able to breach security systems. Social security, names and date of birth of Anthem subscribers has been stolen by hackers. Administration should adopt legislation prohibiting private sector from using Social Security Number for identification purposes. Private sector (credit bureaus, insurance providers, financial institutions) must adopt their own ID numbers to be used in lieu of Social Security Number.
