Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA) which is overbroad, vague, and unnecessary and which (1) label free speech as terrorism; (2) label animal advocates as terrorists; and (3) prohibit non-violent civil disobedience is a violation of First and Fifth Amendment rights under the U.S. Constitution of the citizens.
By targeting lawful speech and advocacy, the AETA has casted a chill over the animal rights community, leading many advocates to censor themselves and refrain from protected speech.
The AETA impacts the ability to engage in litigation aimed at protecting abused animals against industries that exploit animals.
We are outraged that this bill deters Americans from exercising their First Amendment rights to advocate for reforms in the treatment of animals.
