In the California National Guard, enlistment and reenlistment bonuses were paid to many men and women to fill the ranks during the War on Terror/Iraq/Afghanistan. Now, bonuses paid in good faith are being recalled due to the criminal negligence of a few soldiers and bureaucrats who have been punished in a court of law for faking paperwork, or approving these payouts illicitly.
However, the recall of these payments more than ten years after they were paid to men and women who served, fought, and nearly died for our country is disgraceful. The current deputy commander of the CNG has gone on record saying that while he wished absolving these brave soldiers of this debt was allowed, it is currently against the law.
Congress, please act upon this immediately and give these soldiers relief!
