On November 29, 2012, the Palestinians are expected to put forth a bid to the United Nations to upgrade their status to non-member statehood. For the last few decades, the United States has been the sole veto blocking more than 40 resolutions regarding Israel's actions, including resolutions seeking observers in Gaza and the West Bank. (See http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/UN/usvetoes.html)
We request that the United States either support or abstain from Palestinian's upcoming statehood bid. Without legitimate negotiating power for the Palestinians, the interaction between Israel and Palestine has been limited to non-diplomatic struggle. We believe that if the UN chooses to support Palestinian statehood, both sides will choose more diplomatic avenues for resolving conflict.
