In the past 16 years, we have seen two presidential candidates win the popular vote among US citizens only to watch as the Electoral College acts in the opposing interest of the common people and elect the losing candidate among the popular vote. The college is an unnecessary institution within our governmental policies and has worked in opposition to the will of the people twice now: once with Al Gore's defeat to President George W. Bush in 2000, and once again with Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton's defeat to Donald J. Trump.
This cannot be allowed to stand. It is at the request of this petition that we beseech the United States Government to accept the presidential choice of the American people and work to abolish the Electoral College as soon as possible.
