Accept the UN's proposal to take in 65,000 Syrian refugees in the next two years

The war in Syria has been going on for 4 years and has displaced over 7 million people, with 700,000 newly displaced Syrians in 2015 alone. Since the beginning of the conflict the United States has taken in about 700 refugees, and plans to take in 2,000 by the end of the fall, but it isn't enough. The UN is asking the US to step up and take in 65,000 Syrians in the next 2 years. Roughly half of all Syrian refugees are kids. Some have given fear of terrorist infiltration as an excuse for taking in so few refugees, but surely there is a way to properly screen refugees in order to help Syrian children escape devastating violence, hunger, poverty, and lack of basic resources. As a leading country we have a responsibility to help. The UK has pledged to take in 20k, now it's time we do our part.
