account for claims of employee shortages in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields.

Created by B.F. on June 28, 2013

Demand that our leaders use real, first-hand evidence to understand why our country has a supposed shortage of qualified workers in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Despite the "shortage", many citizens with STEM qualifications end up working in non-STEM fields. Industrial and political leaders make hypothetical claims about why this happens, but they should use reliable evidence from the actual people involved. President Obama should task the National Academy of Sciences to survey a suitably wide range of STEM graduates and get the actual reasons for why so many changed fields. The task force should release raw data and statistical summaries of the insights into why our overabundance of STEM graduates leads to a STEM worker shortage and a need for H1B visas.
