ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ALL OFFICER INVOLVED DEATHS: Law enforcement needs independent oversight in cases of civilian deaths

Created by P.C. on August 17, 2014

Please sign to support legislation to create mandatory independent oversight for civilian deaths resulting from interactions with law enforcement (LE). Legislation, similar to Wisconsin Act 348, should seek to:
1) require LE agencies to have a written policy about officer involved deaths;
2) require each policy to mandate two INDEPENDENT investigations into every death;
3) require the investigations to be funded through mean consistent with mutual aid agreements
4) require investigators to provide the DA of the county where death occurred with a complete report in a timely fashion
5) Requires DA to release report if there are no grounds for prosecution
6) Requires agency to inform of victims of death to file complaints and file inquests
7) Requires agency provide written rights
