We believe that it is detrimental to the education of the children of the United States that the words "palindrome" and "onomatopoeia" do not reflect their own definitions. Such a misnomer confuses children as they are expected under No Child Left Behind guidelines to learn this important vocabulary.
The word "palindrome" is defined as a word that is the same from back to front as it is front to back. The word palindrome is not itself a palindrome.
The word "onomatopoeia" is defined as a word that sounds like the word's definition. The word onomatopoeia is not an example of onomatopoeia.
We therefore believe that in order to bring their definitions into line:
The word PALINDROME should be replaced with "PALINDROMEMORDNILAP."
And the word ONOMATOPOEIA should be replaced with "BLOOSH!"
