Our nation's founders wrote the second amendment as a protection FROM the government, "shall not be infringed" for "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" - it's plain and simply elegant to describe that the people shall not have the government encroaching on any of their God given rights to ARM (no firearm specific term here) themselves for protection against an oppressive government, or any other threat to their life, liberty or pursuit of happiness. Duh, the whole reason the US had a revolution for liberty from an oppressive monarchy, that ironically looks tame to the liberty grabbing government we have today.
