The Foreign Assistance Act mandates that the U.S. cut aid to any country “whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup or decree.” That happened last July in Egypt and it is time we acknowledged it.
Today (March 24, 2014), 528 Morsi supporters were sentenced to death for causing the death of a single policeman. The incident occurred when Egypt's military police provoked a peaceful protest.
Whatever shred of moral authority we have left after our involvement in Iraq, Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib should not be further eviscerated by backing illegitimate governments who torture and kill dissenting voices.
