On Jan 17, 1961, Dwight Eisenhower addressed the people of the United States for the very last time as their president. In his Farewell Address, Eisenhower states that the United States had no armaments industry until after it became a superpower of the world, and that "we annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations." Eisenhower warned the United States people, that, this growth of a "militaryindustrial complex" will be fueled by endless wars. Although Eisenhower recognized the need for a tough armaments industry, he also recognized the "grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society."
