The American people who can trace their roots to Irish bloodlines total over 36 million people or just over 11% of the population according to the 2008 American community survey conducted by the U.S. census bureau. We have about 6 times more Irish Decent in The U.S. than Ireland iteslf. Irish people came here and contributed to the civil war effort in the 1800's and have contributed to American society and success. Among those are Henry Ford, Walt Disney, Supreme court justice Anthony Kennedy, the Kennedy Family, Audie Murphy, and countless others. Its about time we gave all Irish decendants the recognition they deserve besides just one day in March.
