The 2nd Amendment states "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." Let's not infringe but rather invoke the civilian militia that provides the rationale for this liberty. Service as armed guards in schools would be a civic duty of those who, through their own choice, consider themselves part of this well regulated militia. This service may be compensated in the same manner as serving jury duty or the IRS may provide tax breaks for those who stand up and be counted.
