Adapt Columbus Day to a new celebration: Heritage Day. The focus would be the melting pot rather than a single man.

Created by P.S. on October 13, 2014

A holiday focused on Christopher Columbus is crude and uneducated, considering that historical record holds that many other explorers from Europe arrived here prior to Columbus. Without wading deeper into the problems of celebrating a single man, we should focus on the great melting pot that is our culture. Heritage Day should take the place of Columbus Day, and it would encourage citizens to learn about their heritage and take stock in the blessings associated with living in the United States. Columbus is a distraction from what is the true focus of the day: that we all came from separate lands to form a great nation.
