The Obama administration was petitioned ealiar to make the metric (SI) systum of measurements mandetory in the United States. The petition recieved 49914 signatures. It was responded with
"Ultamately, the use of metric in this country is a choice and we encourage Americans to continue to make the best choice for themselves and for the purpose at hand and to continue to learn how to move seamlessly between both systums."
We can set our bathroom scales in kilograms, and our thermometers in celcius, but things like road signs are in miles, feet, and yards. We can't do anything about that if we want metric. Also, for things like driver's licences, we must give our weight in pounds and our height in inches. We just want to be able to use the SI systum without beeing forced to use imperial.
