Currently under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) it does not state that businesses are required to give breaks (lunch or coffee) to employees over the age of 18. Though it does state that if given a break period (5 to 20 minutes) that is be compensated, but if this breaks last 30 minutes or longer that this does not qualify as a break and shall not be compensated. If the FLSA is going through the measures to determine which is a compensated break and which is not, then why have they not built a structure to mandate break periods for given time periods worked?
For example: A person working a 5 hour shift is required a 15 minute break; while a person that works a 10 hour period gets a 30 minute break, broken up into two 15 minute breaks or one 30 minute break.
