The word hero is used for everyone who wears some kind of uniform, and a few jobs that don't, like teachers. It isn't respect; it's an easy way out.
Buy a "Support Our Troops" magnet for the back of your car, or donate to the "Wounded Warrior Project," once or twice.
But, support raising taxes by the $2 or $5 or $10 per person to pay for expanded veteran's services? Probably not. Everyone likes veterans services, but no one wants to pay. Everyone wants freedom, but very few actually sign up to protect it.
Real respect means that you're willing to make actual sacrifices to support and care for those who wore the uniform and were injured.
How about a voluntary check off on the US Income Tax form to help defray the costs of treatment, or expand treatment for men and women who served?
