As the government is an ever evolving entity, those in power must evolve with it. By allowing members to remain in such a high level position for 20 plus years, this creates a stalemate in reform. Thus, the elected officials are not an adequate representation of the American people that they were elected to represent 10 years ago. We have term limits for our President for this very reason.
Our government should not support career politicians. As new ideas develop, the ever-changing opinions of the American people should be reflected by officials who embody. Our current system is not doing Democracy true justice.
