All Federal lands are governed by the Archaeological Resources Preservation Act of 1979 and the American Antiquities Act of 1906. These laws are broad in scope in the digging of potential artifacts on Federal lands. However, there is no mention of metal detecting within the laws, but the word digging is used broadly thus leaving metal detectorist in fear of getting arrested or fined by using a metal detector on Federal Land. We would like for our government to amend the acts to state that metal detector's may be used on Federal owned lands to hunt for coins. Amend the language to add a permit must be purchased to metal detect for coins for a yearly fee. We the "citizens" own the Federal lands and should be able to utilize them to metal detect for coins
