add the General Election day to the list of federal holidays, and encourage private businesses to honor the day.

I believe that if Election day is a federally recognized holiday, the most fundamental right of democracy will be less burdensome to those who must work for a living. For most countries elections are held on a Saturday or Sunday, and the turnout is significantly higher than that of the United States. I think this would make it much easier to vote for a large part of the country.
