Middle Easterners have been categorized as White and for advocacy groups believe this decades old practice is inaccurate and narrow minded. In the early 20th century, people from the Middle East argued in court to be counted as white instead of Asian due to the rampant anti-Asian legislation that restricted immigration and denied Asians U.S. citizenship. Since 2000 Middle Eastern immigration has increased by 51% and has people angered and confused by the US's racial categories. We need to stop silencing Middle Eastern American voices and move towards a more inclusive future!
