NASA provides the American public with the next great adventure, however less than one percent of the national budget goes to fund their scientific research. For the United States to continue to be the world leader in space research and exploration, more funding is required for NASA supporting agencies. Through creating a publicly funded Scientific Research and Development fund, we the people can help further our understanding of the universe as well as the world around us. This fund should be created using the same method as the Presidential Election Campaign Fund, a 'five dollar checkoff' to allocate five dollars of our 1040 Federal Tax Return. This is not a new tax, rather a request by the individual to take five dollars of their return and dedicate it to increasing our knowledge.
