Add "Personal Finance" as a high school course requirement.

Created by M.N. on June 23, 2016

Personal finance isn't taught in most public high schools. It's not a requirement or even an elective. It's something everyone is supposed to pick up naturally, learn from friends and family, or Google until they have a basic understanding. Because of this, most people (college graduates included) enter the workforce with no idea about how to manage their money, which can lead to them being buried in personal debt and failing to save for retirement.

- Understanding bank accounts, interest & savings
- Learning basic personal finance practices & tools
- Understanding home mortgages, down payments (can I afford payments for 30 years?)
- Exercises simulating life with a job/paychecks, monthly mortgage payments, food expenses, kids, etc
- Retirement, 401k, matched contributions, etc
