The power of the president to initiate a nuclear first strike is a very powerful action and one with grave consequences for the world if used. Therefore more safeguards such as a test, similar to systems that people use to prevent sending potentially embarrassing emails or texts, or multiple security codes or credentials must be presented to initiate such an action. Additionally, more people should be cognizant of such a decision and the president should not act alone, it is far too dangerous and destructive a decision to trust to any one person. Therefore any initiation of the system should involve a notification to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the vice president, secretary of defense, and other personnel considered relevant for such a decision, and unanimously approved before activation.
