While people of different races, religions, sex, national origins, disabilities and ages are all federally protected under the Civil Rights Act of 1964, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals are offered no such federal protections. Unless local and state governments intervene, it is still legal to be discriminated against because of an individual's sexuality. We the people seek the same federal protections for LGBT individuals that other minority groups are guaranteed.
