The law states that when a homeowner dies the surviving spouse not listed on the mortgage no longer has the right to stay in the home. I will be foreclosed on if not added to the mortgage. Unless a will specifies transfer on survivorship the spouse is not considered the homeowner. The lenders are unwilling to work me to add me to the mortgage. My husband died before we were able to add me to the mortgage. I can't get any government assistance available to homeowners to modify the loan. Agencies helping homeowners stay in their homes will not help me because I was not on the mortgage. There is no assistance available unless I am added. They would rather the home now "house" be abandoned and a danger and detriment to the community. Living here for 13 years means nothing. This has to change
