Mandate individual states to require their school districts to provide non-compulsory mental health screenings to students in all publicly funded schools. Additionally, states will allocate a portion of their budgets to mental health education in schools, which would be available both to students and their families in the form of informational sessions, literature/brochures, guest speakers and implementation into the existing health/physical education curriculum. This policy would heighten the awareness of mental health issues in America’s youth, erase some of the stigma associated with having a mental health or addictive disorder and provide children, adolescents and their families with the educational tools they need to help determine whether they or someone they love needs help.
