The president has already addressed the issue that the people want congress and the office of the president to come together to solve our problems rather than fight over them. However most progress is overcome by representatives who are supported financially by special interest groups. One way to change that paradigm is to give the vote for passing law directly to the people of the United States. At the very least it would get rid of the pork barrel spending that is currently attached to bills. There are any number of direct democracy examples in the world including large scale ones. As a nation that has always cherished liberty and the power of the people, we should be given the opportunity to see for ourselves if we can solve the problems before us.
