Address the dangers of ignoring global warming in a highly visible way (State of the Union or before), reject Keystone

Created by D.W. on January 22, 2013

The president is urged to pick up where he left off in his inauguration speech and directly address the results of ignoring climate change. Much of the country remains ignorant or in denial of the effect of climate change, and political discussion on the matter tends to be far too soft to stir people to action. Much of the country in fact still views man-made climate change as a view held and perpetuated by an elite group of academics who somehow stand to profit from advancing this knowledge. The president must lay out the facts and pull no punches when discussing this. If people actually felt they were in danger, their greed may no longer be able to trump their conscience and, frankly, their fear of inaction. The president need not appease anyone; this is his last term. Make it count.
