To address the fallout in Appalachia from exceedingly hard to meet regulations on coal and coal associated industries

Created by M.R. on September 08, 2014

Whether one agrees with the new laws in effect (and soon to come into effect) pertaining to coal and coal associated industries or not, few would argue that families are suffering because of it. This petition seeks to prompt President Obama and Congress to allot special funds of at least 1 million dollars annually to states in the Appalachian region which have had a disturbing amount of suddenly displaced workers due to mine closings and/or closing of coal-operated facilities. This is asked in an attempt to offset the devastating effects of joblessness, hunger, and lack of medical care that are the direct result of the new regulations on the coal industry. These funds are asked to be used for job retraining, emergency food stamps, and emergency food banks for these affected individuals.
